My name is Mrs. Enny Fortt, and I am excited to begin another wonderful year of learning and growth with my students and families at St. Frances Cabrini School. This is my third year at Cabrini, and I am grateful to be part of such a caring, faith-filled school community. I am originally from Peru and have had the joy of teaching for 29 years. Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to nurturing young minds and creating a positive, enriching classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn.
I believe the elementary years are a special time when children develop not only academically but also socially, emotionally, and personally. I look forward to partnering with families and getting to know each child as we begin this journey together in second grade. My goal is to create a classroom community where students feel valued, encouraged, and inspired to discover the joy of learning.
In addition to my work as a classroom teacher, I am a Spanish tutor and a teacher of folkloric dances. I am passionate about sharing my cultural heritage, celebrating the beauty of language and traditions, and helping students develop an appreciation for diversity, creativity, and the world around them.
My Philosophy
I believe that every child is a unique gift from God with their own strengths, talents, and potential. My philosophy is to nurture the whole child by providing a classroom environment rooted in kindness, respect, faith, and a love of learning. I strive to create a space where students feel confident to ask questions, take risks, and grow both academically and personally.
I believe children learn best when they feel loved, supported, and connected. Through engaging lessons, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for creativity and collaboration, I encourage students to become curious thinkers, compassionate classmates, and lifelong learners.
As an educator, I hope to inspire my students to appreciate their own gifts, respect the cultures and experiences of others, and become responsible, caring members of their community. I am grateful for the opportunity to share this year with your child and look forward to all the learning, friendships, and wonderful experiences that second grade will bring.
Religion: In Second grade, we focus on the life of Jesus, the Trinity, and the Mass. There will be an in-depth study on the gift of the Sacraments as we prepare for Reconciliation and Eucharist. The children learn to make prayer an integral part of their life and develop a personal relationship with Jesus. They learn about our Parish and the parts of the Mass. We discuss Education in Virtue daily.
Reading/Literature: Students develop greater fluency as readers and apply comprehension and vocabulary strategies to a wide variety of literary and informational texts. Students will begin to identify and use literary components of character, setting, conflict/ problem, events, conclusion, main idea, and details.
• Learn to understand and use higher-order thinking skills in comprehension, such as predictions, inferences, cause and effect, character mapping, and point of view.
• Identify and use parts of speech such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and pronouns.
• Identify and use contractions, antonyms, synonyms, and homonyms.
Language Arts/English: The students learn how to use the steps of the writing process for pre-writes, drafts, editing, revising, and publishing. They learn and understand how to write a good 5-sentence paragraph and to apply writing conventions such as complete sentences, correct spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
Mathematics: Students in 2nd grade refine their understanding of the base ten system and use place value concepts of ones, tens, and hundreds. They become fluent with single and double-digit addition and subtraction, problem-solve, and talk about what they did to solve those problems.
Social Studies: Students will have the opportunity to explore the world around them, develop an appreciation for diversity, and discover the importance of contributing to one’s community. They learn about family heritage, heirlooms, and traditions, and the people, places, and holidays in the US and countries around the world.
Science: Students explore, observe, describe, identify, and experiment in their study of Engineering Design Process, Matter, Living Things, and the Earth’s Surface.
Technology: Students will…
• Understand how Chromebooks/technology work and practice safe, legal behavior
• Learn beginning keyboarding skills
• Select and use common applications for learning
Enrichment: Students attend weekly enrichment classes for library, music, PE, and Art.
Standardized Testing
Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade participate in NWEA MAP Growth assessments three times each school year. MAP Growth is a nationally recognized, computer-adaptive assessment that measures each student’s academic achievement and growth in reading, mathematics, and language usage. The results provide valuable information that helps teachers personalize instruction, monitor student progress, and ensure every child is challenged and supported throughout the year. Families receive detailed reports after each testing period to better understand their child’s progress and academic growth over time.
